Joy Jermy Receives 20 Year Service Award

“Local Language Teacher recognised and honoured with 20 year Service Award”

On 11th January 1994 in a living room in Twickenham, mum of two, Joy Jermy, started her first French class with her two young sons and a handful of children from the local area. Classes continued each week around the stresses and strains of a busy family life and work commitments from her job as a Primary school teacher. Fast forward 20 years. Joy now heads one of the most successful and thriving businesses under the license of the renowned and award-winning La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children network. Together with her group of 10 tutors they currently teach 484 nursery and primary-aged children in and around West London which includes many schools and nurseries who have received outstanding Ofsted reports. Having two young sons was Joy’s inspiration to start teaching French; her life overseas had shown her how readily young children learn other languages. Joy comments: “My real passion for languages started when I was at school where I was fortunate enough to study French, German and Latin. That, together with a decade overseas teaching in International Schools made me really want to offer that to my own children who could share and experience different languages and cultures of the world.” It is testament to the success of learning with La Jolie Ronde that one of Joy’s sons chose to study languages as part of his degree.

So, together with her young boys, Joy set about teaching them herself along with a few local children. Over time word got around that learning French was fun and Joy was contacted by many parents wanting their children to learn French too; so began her language learning company “Joy for Languages”. Initially the “classroom” at home was fine, but due to increasing demand Joy decided to look for larger premises and began to run classes in local schools, nurseries and halls. As numbers steadily increased Joy made the decision to employ several tutors and when La Jolie Ronde introduced their programme in Spanish Joy also expanded her classes to meet this growing need. To help filter enquiries more efficiently Joy launched her own company website – The site provides up to date information on course content as well as class times and venue and it acts as a fantastic direct promotional tool, not only to parents but to new prospective schools and nurseries in the area. The website offers a more professional image and edge and under Joy’s guidance ‘Joy for Languages’ has seen continual growth for over 20 years.

Joy was made a La Jolie Ronde Regional Co-ordinator in 2001 and many other teachers within the network have benefited from her vast experience. In this role Joy has been asked to present the course to schools in and around the south of England and is regularly asked to carry out Quality Control Visits to La Jolie Ronde teachers in London, Surrey and Berkshire.

2014 marks Joy’s 20th year with La Jolie Ronde and Joy was recently rewarded and presented with her 20 year Service Award. General Manager for La Jolie Ronde Steve Baker said, “Joy is truly inspirational and her incredible commitment, dedication and drive has meant so many children over the years have benefited. Joy’s passion and professionalism, together with her enthusiasm about languages, shines through making her such a great ambassador. We are so happy to share this fantastic achievement with Joy and hope to share many more years with her”.
